Beachside Dining

You all know how much I love the holidays...all the decorating, baking, and finding ways to use a Christmas tree all year around. Well, to this holiday fanatic, the summer is kind of disappointing. I just took down my Easter and Saint Patrick's Day decor...yes, it is the end of May, I know. But without the excitement of pulling out the next holiday, I just don't have the motivation to put it all away. But after my recent trip to Hawaii, I was inspired to get working on the island cabana I wanted to create. Pulling together seashells and other pieces of nature, I was quite pleased with the outdoor and airy island feel of summer. Added some candles to one of my favorite pieces...
Just simply adding candles made the gate scream beach!
My first apocathary jar! I especially love that it added height to the table to make a big statement without taking up a lot of table space.
My shells from Hawaii. I know that I could find shells at the craft store but I like to collect them on my trips as they serve as a fun memory...
How do you decorate for the summer?

  1. I love the beach thing.. it's great. The colors are cooling and calming. Are you doing this on a porch or a patio? Just really want to get the full flavor. Looks great!!

  2. Love your beach decor. I have been looking out for one of those large apothecary jars to buy since Christmas.

I can't wait to get back to our beach cottage over the summer, and add some more touches. We got it 3 years ago, and before now have just been getting the basics - but it is now time for some more finishing touches!

  3. I love the blue and white. I might have to go get an apothecary jar, that looks great!
From Memorial Day until after the 4th of July, everything is red, white and blue with as many flags as possible.

  4. I haven't really decorated for summer before (except for a 4th of July wreath on my front door), but now I'm gonna! Love the beachy theme, and that apothecary jar looks amazing. I don't blame you for wanting to bring home your own shells--it seems like cheating to buy 'em, huh? ;)

  5. That's very pretty! Love how you mixed the candles with the jar and the little blue stones (I have all of those things here and never thought of putting them together). It looks serene... I have a couple of starfish and shells shapped candles and that's all I do for summer decor. I think I only decorate once a year pretty much - Xmas time! Wish you have a great day!

  7. I'm from the outer banks of North Carolina and love the beach. Being in TN has made me homesick for the salty air. I love my shell lamps (I must post about) and other shells I've collected through my lifetime there.

  9. I LOVE the fence on the wall with the votives! What an amazing idea. We're gearing up to re-do our family room and that's an idea I may just have to borrow.

  10. I love the beach thing!! I'm totally singing Bob Marley songs in my head while I'm looking at your pics:) I usually don't really decorate for summer because I'm outside all the time. If I lived somewhere where the weather was predictable I'd have a retreat in my backyard!

  14. That was sweet of you to pop on over to my blog. The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, so I tend to go that route.

I am in need of your assistance/advice! I have a black baker's rack from my SIL and it has two wicker basket drawers in it. I put a piece of black and cream fabric on the "faux wood" shelf and was thinking of spray painting the wicker (it's just a warm wooden color). Have you ever done that? I was thinking of spraying it black first and then spraying cream over the top, missing all the tight corners and stuff to give it some depth. What do you think?
