Simple living is one of those things that we all seem to strive for yet often have the trouble in achieving it. For me, simple living and homemaking overlap. I have been trying to pin my finger on what exactly allows me to live simply and I have come to the conclusion that it is my passion for and time at home.
In Tsh Oxenreider's book, Organized Simplicity, she explains simple living perfectly:
Simple living is about living your life with a purpose that aligns with your values. It's about enjoying the things you love and care about and not about stressing over the things that don't matter. It's fulfilling: it brings peace; it drips with contentment. Living simply is about being who you were made to be.For everyone, our priorities are different. But whatever it is, by focusing your life on those priorities and purposes, I believe you can achieve a simple life.
If you desire to live a more simple life, I encourage you to look at the things you really want and love in life and make those real life priorities.
For me my purpose is found in:
-Taking care of my husband
-Making a pretty but imperfect home
-Making my home comfortable and taking care of it for myself and my family
-Taking care of my nephew
-Being available to my family and friends
-Taking care of myself emotionally, physically, and spiritually
-Blogging as a creative outlet and place to encourage and inspire women
I have come to realize it is because I have chosen to be at home that I am able to live simpler. Because by being at home I am able to better live out my life's passions and purposes.
Making my house a home is not always easy but it channels my focus to slowing down and on things that truly bring purpose and joy into my life.
Being at home may or may not be your solution to a simpler life. But I encourage you to consider what main factor either allows you or keeps you from living a simpler life. Having time to take care of your home and family may have more weight than you realize.
What things fill your daily life purpose? And how can you achieve them?
