It is January and I am trying to eat more apples and the sort to compensate for all the holiday sweets I indulged in. But there are still a few yummy treats sitting around my house.
Now I try to have a healthy balance. Instead of eating chocolate I decided to have some apples and caramel sauce. As I sat there dipping into the decadent homemade salted caramel dip that we received as a gift, I was reminded of my peanut butter yogurt apple dip. And my January self told me that I should add some protein to that caramel. And this heavenly salted caramel Greek yogurt dip was born.
It is the best of both worlds. A clean healthy snack with just enough sweetness to curb a sweet tooth. In order to not over eat or be hungry a half an hour later I am trying to find the balance of filling meals that still taste great. And this one is most definitely a winner.
For the dip it is just caramel sauce and nonfat Greek yogurt. I did about a ration of 2:1 yogurt to caramel. But you can adjust it based on your preference. It is not the leanest of dips but it definitely is a smarter choice. Because honestly I was going to eat all the caramel dip with or without the yogurt. The yogurt made it a filling afternoon snack I did not have to feel bad about.
So I am kind of thinking that I can mix all sorts of things with Greek yogurt. The options are endless. I think I need a white chocolate version...
Salted Caramel Greek Yogurt Apple Dip
1/3 cup salted caramel (but any kind of caramel will do--ice cream topping, homemade, melted in the microwave, etc.)
2/3 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
Apples
Mix caramel and yogurt together. Cut apples and dip! Enjoy!
