Backyard Al Fresco Birthday Party

We recently hosted a little backyard dinner to celebrate my mother in law's birthday.  The weather was just lovely making this little spot in the shade perfect for an intimate celebration.

Instead of a traditional cake I made creme brulee for the first time.  I felt pretty fancy serving it and the recipe I used was fantastic.

The decorations were simple - I hung up my Happy Birthday banner and used a bar cart to put the pretty food on display.

I put out a happy birthday plate I made at one of those pottery painting places.

Since we were eating outdoors, I went with a barbecue themed meal.  I served chicken, corn off the cob (with just butter, salt, and pepper and then roasted in the oven), oven fries, and an asian broccoli salad (same as my chinese chicken salad recipe but using broccoli slaw instead of cabbage).

Summer entertaining is one of my favorite times of year.  It was a simple yet lovely dinner enjoyed by all!
