Chinese Inspired Dinner Party

For Father's Day this year we hosted an Asian themed meal for our dads.  It was my first time doing a larger scale meal serving Chinese and I was pretty pleased with the results.  Half of the menu items I made from scratch while the other half I went with premade.  This made it easier on me to try a few new recipes and get the hang of serving such a large variety of items.  We ate outside, naturally for June, and enjoyed the food and company.

I set up two rectangle tables to make a large square providing plenty of room to pass around the food family style.

The decor was simple focusing on the food and my pretty set of chopsticks.

They usually serve Jasmine tea at Chinese restaurants so I wanted to do the same.  But since we were eating outside in the month of June, I created a Jasmine iced tea to keep us cool.  It turned out delicious and was a simple combination of Jasmine tea, mint, and lemon juice.  I have been making versions of it all summer long!

One of my from scratch items was egg custard.  They were very good but the crust was more cookie-ish then flaky.  No complaints by anyone though.  We ate these cute little tarts up!

For premade items I went with frozen spring rolls, orange chicken, and pot stickers.

I made slow cooker teriyaki chicken, cashew chicken, sesame garlic ginger green beans and steamed rice.

All I can say is that it was delicious and that I was doing my Chinese heritage proud.  Everyone raved about the food plus I finally tackled serving my first large Chinese meal.  I hope to continue this tradition for many years to come.
