Hello friends and happy new year! I am excited to share today that my blog design got a full on makeover! It has been long overdue for a design update. And I am so excited that I finally figured out a way to make it new, beautiful, and so much easier to navigate (without costing me a ton of money or hiring someone to do it!).
How it all started was about a month ago, some random person commented on one of my posts on Pinterest telling me that the ads on my blog were making it impossible for her to read the article. I didn't know what she was talking about until a week later when I pulled up my blog on my phone and realized what was happening.
I still had the desktop version of my blog on mobile. I had looked into making it more mobile friendly years ago but with the free version of blogspot that I still use, I could never get it to look right. So I let it be.
But apparently, an advertisement I had placed was meant for mobile sites and there was a giant ad in front of my content with no way to close it or see what was written. Yikes!
So I reached out to my ad agency to try to fix it and they greatly urged me that I needed to update my blog to a more mobile site. The majority of people are looking up everything on their phones and I was way behind the times!
I needed a responsive theme which means that no matter what type of device someone is using, my site would be responsive to their device. Very interesting for this not so techy person. ha! But apparently this is how ALL websites are working these days. Except for old lady bloggers like myself!
So I purchased a responsive blog theme on Etsy for SIX DOLLARS.
SIX DOLLARS YOU GUYS!!!
I dreamed of having a beautiful blog with fancy features for YEARS. It was always so expensive or you had to hire someone to do it. Plus with so many years of blog posts, I never wanted to accidentally lose old content by messing it up.
But I have been DIYing my blog since the beginning and learning enough HTML to get by so that I was never financially tied to this blog. Because there have been seasons where I just couldn't keep up and didn't ever want it to be a financial burden.
I guess you can say my patience has paid off. Because years past when I should have taken care of this, I finally made some of my blogging dreams come true.
For SIX DOLLARS (and two days worth of nap times to figure it all out)!
Anyways, if you are able to click over to my site (if you are reading this in email) you can find my most recent posts up top. There is even a drop down menu to pick posts by categories. A search box that actually works! It is pretty spectacular. And if you are my mother, please do pull this up on your computer because it is even more fantastic there. :)
Thank you informative stranger on Pinterest! I hope this makes reading updates and finding past articles so much easier.
Thank you for sticking with me all these years, even when things were literally hard to read! (I'm so embarassed! lol).
I also reopened the comment section so here is hoping that the new layout will allow it to work better.
Here is to another year of blogging in this new year! xo
