In Donald Miller’s book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, he tells a story of the movie Friday Night Lights and how the movie was about the year the team lost, even though just the following year they had one it all:
They said the year the team won, the story was great, but the year they lost the story was better, because the team that lost had sacrificed more…It wasn’t necessary to win for the story to be great, it was only necessary to sacrifice everything. This touches home for me so much. So often I try to be the best with my perfectionist attitude. But it is actually when I am willing to sacrifice myself…my time…being right…winning—that is when I actually have a story worth telling.
