Making Homemade Peanut Butter in the Vitamix

Making Homemade Peanut Butter in the Vitamix

I have been dreaming of a Vitamix ever since I first laid eyes on it at the state fair.  The last few months of finally being together has been pure blending bliss.  Besides smoothies galore, my newest obsession is homemade peanut butter.

It is made up of peanuts.  That's it.  Put it in the Vitamix, turn it up from 1 to 10 and then on High.

It will sound like something is dying inside.  It is a really terrible sound but I promise it is okay.  How do I know this?  They show it in this Vitamix demo.

Endure the sound.  Cover your children's ears.  Soon enough you will be rewarded with glorious creamy peanut butter goodness.

3 cups of peanuts fills one of my mason jars.  If you want you could add a little salt...or honey...I won't tell.  It's absolutely amazing!  It should last a couple of weeks in the refrigerator and comes out creamy and smooth enough to spread right out of the fridge.

I hear you can make it in your food processor as well.  Never buying peanut butter again.

Updated tip: someone on Pinterest added that instead of trying to clean out the peanut butter that gets stuck at the bottom of the blade, just make a smoothie with the leftover peanut butter on the bottom.  Brilliant!  I recently tried it for the first time and it worked great!  I love it in my peanut butter banana and spinach shake!

  1. Wow! I knew a Vitamix was stronger than a regular blender (like mine), but I am totally impressed with how smooth your peanut butter got - just like that. Enjoy!
