A Quiet Day at Apple Hill

There is this place called Apple Hill where we live.  If you live anywhere locally to Sacramento, you know what I am talking about.  They have lots of apples, sweet treats, crafts, pumpkins in the fall, and Christmas trees in the winter.  It is the epitome of fall and Christmas around here and we got to enjoy it all to ourselves one rare Wednesday morning that Brent took the day off.

One of the beautiful gifts we have in our marriage is my availability.  Being able to go on a mini day trip in the middle of the week is such a blessing and often a luxury.  I am so thankful that my life is simple enough that I can drop the day's plans to be with my husband.

We joke that we are already living like a little old couple.  We laugh that we act like we are retired.  We go to bed before 9:00 pm and think going on trips in the middle of the week is much more enjoyable because there isn't a crowd.

Our marriage and life thrives off of a simple life.  Even just the busyness of being at crowded places turn us off.  We crave peace and stillness in our lives when the rest of the world is moving so quickly.

It is hard to get to this place.  But let me tell you as someone who has seen both sides, our life feels so much fuller when it is simpler and just a little quieter.

  1. I used to live in Folsom. It's been over 15 years and I still long for Apple Hill every fall. I've even fantasized about going there for a visit, and I live over 1000 miles away now. Funny how some places stay with you!

  3. We go to bed around 9:00 too. I need my rest! :) I love having an "old people" marriage. The slower pace and simplicity is really comforting.

  4. Love this! Beautiful! I also joke about being a little old woman in a 27-year-olds body for the same reasons...
