I have not come up with a new protein shake recipe in a very long time. For someone who eats one everyday for breakfast (for years!), having a new variation makes for a happy morning!
This recipe is inspired by a local smoothie joint who charged me $7 for a smoothie. Seven dollars! I thought Jamba Juice was getting expensive. Anyways, though an overpriced smoothie (in my opinion), they still provided me with the basis for a very delicious new protein shake. For that I suppose it was worth the seven bucks.
I tend to eyeball my protein shakes (no time or energy for getting out measuring spoons first thing in the morning). So the recipe is to give you an idea of the ratio of ingredients. But by all means, feel free to throw in the ingredients and call it a day.
Blueberry Muffin Protein Shake
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
2 tablespoons raw oats
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (or you can use yogurt. I use Designer Whey protein powder)
1/4-1/2 cup almond milk (or other milk variation of your choice-add as you go to get the right consistency)
handful of spinach (optional-but I always add spinach! I promise you can't taste it!)
Mix all ingredients together in blender.
// I started putting oats into my shakes more often when I first started nursing my son to help with lactation. I found very quickly just how delicious it is to add to fruit smoothies. In combination with a little vanilla protein powder or yogurt, it starts tasting like a muffin or oatmeal cookie (obviously, a much healthier smoothie version). So I highly recommend it if you haven't tried it!
