It is starting to feel like summer around here. The temperature is occasionally getting up to the low 70s! It has been a cold and rainy spring, to say the least. But we have been enjoying chasing the sun all season - getting outside every time we see the sun poke out!
We have started to put together our outdoor summer area. Moving around furniture and toys to fit our current season of life has been a fun outdoor version of my house puttering.
If you follow along on Instagram, you may have seen that I am taking a summer break from social media. It feels worthy to mention here as my current summer state is a big reflection of that stepping away. I am feeling lighter and happier and I know that taking a break has a lot to do with it. I am slowing down even more and it is exactly what I have been longing for.
I am excited for a slow summer - our first summer with a kid in school! I am beginning to understand the longing for summer as a parent. And the whole eighteen summers concept - how we have eighteen summers with each of our children before they are off on their own. We have twelve more with my oldest and that already feels too short! How the years fly by quickly.
This past weekend we pulled out some of our patriotic summer decor. The kids always get so happy to pull out our seasonal decorations. It also helps remind me that summer is actually coming even if it is still cloudy and dark outside!
We have one more week of school left for my son and then we will start our summer break. I have a few local activities I want to do with them but I also want a lot of low key time at home. We will pull out the splash pad, play in our new playhouse, make lemonade and ice cream, and watch plenty of our favorite movies! As my sweet friend coined the phrase, we are saying "yes to less!"
Here is our collection of summer books. Most of the American history books were picked up when we visited historical sites in Virginia and Washington DC. I write on the inside of the books where we purchased them. I am grateful for this special little collection that take us back to our last home.
